How we price, and why

Read enough reviews of London electricians and the same three complaints appear: the price moved, the out-of-hours rate was double, and there was no certificate at the end. We built the pricing around not causing those.

One hourly rate, at any hour. No call-out fee. Fixed prices agreed before work starts on anything that can sensibly be fixed-priced. And where a job genuinely cannot be priced until it is diagnosed — fault finding, mostly — we charge for the diagnosis, then give you a fixed price for the repair before doing it. Every price we charge is published on our prices page, which is more than most of our competitors will do.

What we are qualified to do

• All work certified to BS 7671 (18th Edition)
• Notifiable work self-certified to building control under Part P

NICEIC Approved Contractor status means our work is assessed annually against BS 7671 by an independent body, and that we can self-certify notifiable work rather than you having to pay building control separately. Part P registration is what makes that lawful. Both matter most at the point you sell or let the property, when someone asks for the paperwork.

What we will not do

We will not quote a rewire over the phone, because the cost depends on how hard the building is to work in and nobody can judge that without looking. We will not sell you a full rewire when a partial one produces the same result — most properties we see need a partial. We will not fit a new consumer unit without testing the existing circuits first, because the new protective devices are more sensitive than what they replace and will find faults the old fuses tolerated.

And we will not take a job we cannot get to in time. If you ring with an emergency and we are two hours away, we will say so and, where we can, point you at someone closer. Sending someone late to an electrical emergency is worse than saying no.

Where we work

Clapham SW4 is our base and most of our work is within a few miles of it. We cover Battersea, Balham, Wandsworth, Brixton and Streatham, with response times between 45 and 90 minutes depending on the area and the traffic. We are a service-area business — we come to you, and there is no shop or trade counter to visit.
