Short answer

A 7kW home charger costs from £850 installed, including the unit, a dedicated circuit and DNO notification. The real question in inner London is not the charger — it is whether your main fuse and supply can carry it, and whether you can legally run a cable to where you park. We check both before quoting.

You need us if

  • You have taken delivery of an electric or plug-in hybrid car
  • You are relying on a three-pin granny cable and want to stop
  • You have off-street parking, a driveway or an allocated bay
  • You are a landlord or freeholder adding chargers to a block
  • Your existing charger has failed or needs moving
  • You want load balancing so the charger does not trip the house

What's included

  • Supply capacity check — main fuse rating and existing load, before we quote
  • DNO notification handled for you (required for every install)
  • Dedicated circuit from the consumer unit with its own RCBO
  • Load-balancing CT clamp so the charger throttles instead of tripping
  • Cable run agreed with you, clipped and routed neatly, not the shortest ugly line
  • Installation certificate, Part P notification and manufacturer registration

The standard we work to

Installed to BS 7671 Section 722 and the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021, with DNO notification under ENA G98/G99.

Questions

EV charger — what people ask

How much does it cost to install an EV charger at home?
From £850 for a 7kW unit supplied and installed with up to a 10 metre cable run. Longer runs, cores through walls or a trench across a garden add cost. If your main fuse is only 60A or 80A you may need a supply upgrade from the DNO first, which is a separate application and can take weeks — we tell you that before you commit, not after.
Can I install an EV charger in a flat or a converted house?
Only if you have a parking space you have the right to use and a lawful route for the cable. In a converted Victorian house the cable usually has to cross common parts, which needs freeholder consent. Street-side charging with a cable across the pavement is not permitted in Lambeth or Wandsworth without a specific licensed gully. We will tell you honestly on the phone if it is not going to work.
Do I need to tell the electricity network operator?
Yes. Every EV charger install must be notified to the DNO — UK Power Networks in this part of London. A 7kW single-phase unit is normally notified after installation under G98. Anything larger needs approval before you install. We handle the paperwork; installers who skip it leave you with an unnotified installation that can complicate a future sale.
Is my supply big enough for a 7kW charger?
A 7kW charger draws 32A. Most London properties have an 80A or 100A main fuse, which is fine. Plenty of older conversions still have 60A, and with an electric shower and oven already on it there may not be headroom. The fix is usually load balancing rather than a supply upgrade: a CT clamp on the incoming tail tells the charger to reduce its draw when the rest of the house is busy.
