Short answer

An extra double socket spurred from a nearby point is £85 fitted; a new socket on its own run is £120 to £160 depending on the route. We do small work as fixed-price jobs, not hourly, so you know the cost before we arrive.

You need us if

  • Extension leads permanently in use because there are not enough sockets
  • You want USB-C sockets, or sockets behind a wall-mounted TV
  • Downlights, under-cabinet or feature lighting for a kitchen
  • Outdoor lighting, garden power or a shed supply
  • Dimmers that buzz, or LED lamps that flicker and glow when off
  • A new light fitting that needs an earth the existing circuit does not have

What's included

  • Fixed price agreed before the visit for standard jobs
  • Cable chased in and made good, not surface-clipped unless you ask
  • Correct LED-compatible dimmers — the usual cause of flicker and buzz
  • Outdoor work in properly rated IP65 equipment on an RCD-protected circuit
  • Circuit tested and existing protection verified before we add to it
  • Minor Works Certificate for every alteration

The standard we work to

New points and circuits installed to BS 7671 (18th Edition); bathroom and outdoor work notified under Part P where required.

Questions

Sockets & lighting — what people ask

How much does it cost to add an extra socket?
£85 for a double socket spurred from an existing point nearby. £120 to £160 if it needs its own run back to the consumer unit or a long chase across a room. Fitting several at once is much cheaper per socket, because most of the cost is access and making good rather than the socket itself.
Why do my LED lights flicker or glow faintly when switched off?
Almost always the dimmer. Old resistive dimmers were designed for filament bulbs and cannot handle the tiny load of LEDs, which causes flicker at low brightness and a faint glow when off. A trailing-edge LED dimmer fixes it for about £45 fitted. The other cause is a two-way switching arrangement where the switch wire runs alongside a live conductor and picks up a small induced voltage.
Can you fit sockets or lights in a bathroom?
Yes, within the rules. Standard 13A sockets are not permitted within 3 metres of a bath or shower — only shaver sockets on an isolating transformer. Lights must be rated for the zone they are in, IP65 in the shower zone. Bathroom electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it must be certified and registered, which we do as part of the job.
Do you do small jobs, or is there a minimum charge?
We do small jobs — they are most of what we do. Our minimum is one hour at £65. If you have a list of small things, save them up and do them in one visit: five small jobs in one two-hour slot costs a fraction of five separate call-outs.
