Southfields is good for EV chargers — many houses on the grid have off-street parking, and the supply is usually adequate. The Tonsleys are almost impossible: no off-street parking anywhere, and Wandsworth does not license cable gullies across the footway on those streets. The riverside developments have underground parking and in several cases pre-installed charging infrastructure, so the job there is often connecting to existing provision rather than a new install, which is cheaper — but it needs the building's approval and sometimes their nominated contractor.
The property types we see in Wandsworth
The Tonsleys are 1850s–1870s two-up two-down cottages, small, solid-walled and with almost no floor void — which makes every cable run a chase. Southfields is the 1900s grid between the common and the district line, larger and mostly still whole houses. Earlsfield is smaller Victorian terrace, heavily converted to flats. The riverside developments — Ram Quarter, Wandsworth Riverside Quarter — are new-build with three-phase supplies, heat networks and, importantly for us, sprinkler and alarm interfaces that mean electrical work often has to be coordinated with the building's fire strategy.
What ev charger involves
A 7kW home charger costs from £850 installed, including the unit, a dedicated circuit and DNO notification. The real question in inner London is not the charger — it is whether your main fuse and supply can carry it, and whether you can legally run a cable to where you park. We check both before quoting.
You need us if
- You have taken delivery of an electric or plug-in hybrid car
- You are relying on a three-pin granny cable and want to stop
- You have off-street parking, a driveway or an allocated bay
- You are a landlord or freeholder adding chargers to a block
- Your existing charger has failed or needs moving
- You want load balancing so the charger does not trip the house
What's included
- Supply capacity check — main fuse rating and existing load, before we quote
- DNO notification handled for you (required for every install)
- Dedicated circuit from the consumer unit with its own RCBO
- Load-balancing CT clamp so the charger throttles instead of tripping
- Cable run agreed with you, clipped and routed neatly, not the shortest ugly line
- Installation certificate, Part P notification and manufacturer registration
The standard we work to
Installed to BS 7671 Section 722 and the Electric Vehicles (Smart Charge Points) Regulations 2021, with DNO notification under ENA G98/G99.
Getting to you in Wandsworth
Wandsworth is our furthest patch and the response time reflects the traffic on Trinity Road and the one-way system rather than the mileage. Old York Road and the Tonsleys have very limited parking and narrow streets. The riverside blocks all require concierge sign-in and most require a permit to work for anything beyond a basic repair, which we handle but which needs a day's notice.
